Rajasthan Congress Chief Targets Centre Over Electoral Bonds Scheme, Calls It Biggest "Scam"

Jaipur (Rajasthan) [India]: Rajasthan Congress president Govind Singh Dotasra on Monday attacked BJP-led Central government over electoral bonds scheme, calling it "the biggest scam."

Speaking to reporters here, he accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of merely talking about ending corruption without doing anything about it.

Dotasra alleged, "Electoral bonds are the biggest scam. Once the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has taken action against a particular company then that company gives money to the BJP in the next few days.

The electoral bonds scheme allowed a company that may have a profit of just Rs 1 to give crores of rupees to the BJP. Many companies did not pay tax but gave crores to the BJP through electoral bonds."

The Supreme Court had struck down the electoral bonds scheme as unconstitutional in a ruling in February.

He said that while Congress always fulfils what it promises to the people, the BJP under Prime Minister Narendra Modi does not do so.

"Congress has always fulfilled what it said. PM Modi comes here (Rajasthan) only during elections. Reservation in the Parliament and the state Assemblies has been given for the women of the country and a law has been made, but no one knows when it will be implemented," Dotasra said.

Referring to the BJP's 'Abki Baar 400 Paar' slogan, Dotasra alleged that PM Modi wants more than 400 seats for the NDA in the Lok Sabha to amend the Constitution in such a way that there is no need to conduct elections and he can be Prime Minister forever.

The election for 543 Lok Sabha seats will be held in seven phases starting April 19. Nearly 97 crore voters are eligible to cast votes in the general election. The counting of the votes will be held on June 4.

Rajasthan will go to the polls in two phases, on April 19 and April 26. Polling for 12 Lok Sabha seats will be held in the first phase on April 19, while the remaining 13 seats will be polled in the second phase on April 26.
