Radico Khaitan And SheWings Organised Health And Hygiene Awareness Camp In Sitapur

Sitapur : After a successful collaboration in Rampur, Radico Khaitan partnered with SheWings Foundation to organise another successful health and hygiene awareness camp for women in the Sitapur district, Uttar Pradesh.

After some interactive sessions that revolved around making women aware of menstrual hygiene and tackling the stigma around menstruation, the organisers distributed sanitary napkins to the audience.

The event was aimed at helping women understand the need to break the taboo around menstruation by imparting appropriate knowledge, recognizing the importance of hygiene, and enabling women and girls to talk freely about their health issues. As a part of this drive, SheWings distributed sanitary napkins on the ground level in the Sitapur district.

Hosted recently in Bal Van Udyan, Ilsiya, Sitapur, the event began with a welcome speech by Ms. Savita Singh, Senior Educationist, and former Principal of a reputed inter-college in Lucknow. The event was graced by the presence of dignitaries like Ms. Rekha, Senior Women Empowerment Activist, BJP; Ms. Pooja Chaudhary, Gram Pradhan, Sitapur; and Mr. D.M Shukla, DFO, Sitapur.

Ms. Savita began the address by sharing her insights on the importance of using sanitary pads and disposing of them properly. She further encouraged women to stay focused on their menstrual hygiene as she added that imparting the right knowledge to the young generation is crucial in ensuring that adolescent girls lead healthier life.

In one of its recent studies, the UN’s child protection agency, UNICEF, mentioned that 71% of adolescent girls in India remain unaware of menstruation until they get their first period.

Another report by an NGO claims that over 20 million girls are forced to drop out of school annually due to a lack of proper menstrual hygiene management facilities, which include the availability of sanitary pads and information about menstruation.

Speaking about the success of the event, Mr. Amar Sinha, COO, Radico Khaitan, said, ‘We are proud to be part of the Women’s Health and Hygiene campaign initiated by SheWings. After the success of our first event in Rampur, seeing a huge turnout in Sitapur was a delight as it represents that women want to gain knowledge of their well-being. We are here to promote awareness and educate as many women as we can. We are extremely happy to partner with SheWings for this great cause.”

Talking about the issues faced by women because of a lack of proper education about menstruation, senior activist, Ms. Rekha, said, “There is an urgent need for breaking free of the taboo surrounding menstruation. The right information and awareness about menstruation need to be imparted for society to accept it as a natural process.”

Gram Pradhan Ms. Pooja Chaudhary also touched upon the importance of cleanliness during menstruation so that women can take care of themselves and prevent themselves from any health hazards.

Mr. D.M. Shukla, Divisional Forest Officer of Sitapur said, “It is an honour to be a part of this amazing initiative by SheWings and all the partners including Radico Khaitan. It is important to educate girls and by educating women, we are educating generations.”

Ms. Savita, thanked all the panelists, the SheWings team and Radico Khaitan for making the event a success.
